The Blackwater Creek Trail is a favorite hiking and running trail in the area, and it runs through Hollins Mill Park. This park was the site of a flour mill built by Lynchburg’s namesake, and later became home to the first railroad line in the region. The railroad was instrumental in the city’s economic development and helped to move tobacco, coal, and other goods. It also helped to connect the city with Bristol, Tennessee. The rail bed was converted into a scenic trail for hikers, runners, and cyclists.
