The city’s second-largest park offers both passive and active recreation and trails. It has three lighted tennis courts, seven multipurpose fields (soccer, football, softball, and baseball), volleyball courts, basketball courts, and mountain bike trails. A great post ahead.

The ADA-compliant Ivy Creek Greenway runs through the park and is complemented by additional walking trails.
The disc golf course has a great layout with holes of varying difficulty. It could use some attention to the wooded sections (trash, tripping hazards) and the discs can be tricky to retrieve due to bushes and tree branches.

Softball/Baseball Fields
As Lynchburg’s second largest park, Peaks View offers a variety of sports opportunities and is a favorite with area families. The park has seven lighted softball and baseball fields, two playgrounds (including one with a face-to-face swing for babies and toddlers), tennis courts, mountain bike trails, and a disc golf course.
The ADA-accessible Ivy Creek Greenway is a favorite of walkers, runners, and cyclists. There are also several paved walking paths throughout the park and an exercise/jogging course that winds through the hills adjacent to Ivy Creek.
Downtown Lynchburg is home to Bank of the James Stadium, which hosts minor league baseball games, and is a short walk to City Stadium, which hosts professional football and soccer events and can seat up to 10,000 fans. Here is another spot to visit.
Mountain Bike Trails
A favorite spot for local mountain bikers, the trails at Peaks View Park are designed with beginner, intermediate, and expert riders in mind. These trails are also used for jogging and walking; a popular exercise course runs through the park.
The Blackwater Creek Trail, which winds through the Blackwater Creek Natural Area, is a great way for families to enjoy the outdoors. The trail features paved and unpaved bike paths that vary in difficulty.
Each spring, cyclists of all skill levels participate in The Storming of Thunder Ridge Road Ride, a fundraising event that benefits the YMCA of Central Virginia. The 27- and 45-mile routes feature a variety of rolling hills and meandering back roads. The longer 100-mile route includes the challenging climb to Thunder Ridge.
Picnic Shelters
The second largest park in Lynchburg, Peaks View Park features sports fields and a paved walking trail. The paved pathway runs parallel to Ivy Creek and is dotted with shade trees like viburnum, hypericum, and sycamores.
Afterward, the kids can cool off at Miller Park Pool for some splashy summer fun. The pool is one of the top things to do for families in Lynchburg and can be rented for special events.
Alternatively, try indoor skiing and snowboarding at Liberty Mountain Snowflex Centre. This family-friendly attraction also offers thrilling tubing lanes and a trampoline park. Or, ignite your child’s creativity at the Academy Center of the Arts, a cultural hub that hosts exciting family entertainment events throughout the year.

This park is also home to a 18-hole disc golf course and bicycle pump track. You can find them at the Wiggington Road entrance to the park.
